We Love it Wednesday: Christmas Cards

Christmas is one of my favorite times of the year – time spent with family, fabulous food, and especially Christmas cards! I love going to check the mail and seeing brightly colored envelopes with fun postage, mixed in with all the bills and direct mailers. What a surprise when I saw a poster tube sent from Billy Davis and opened it to find this:

Along with a certificate that read:

Item No. 12640
unattributed (believed to be Gilbert Grzcki)
11 x 17 in. (27.94 x 43.18 cm)

Condition B– Tape stains on all corners; water stain on right upper corner; minor foxing throughout

This exceedingly rare poster for the 1966 Christmas Day concert given by Santa Claus at the Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco, is in fair to good condition. There are only thirteen others known in public

This item is prized for its scarcity and the quality of its design and illustration. Even though the poster is not signed, style and execution suggest this is a work by the late Gilbert (Griz) Grzcki of San Mateo CA.

This example is from a lot of sixty-five posters formerly of the Nicolas Cage collection.

Bids start at $1,265 USD

What a fabulous idea for a Christmas card! I love the fact that not only was this a non-traditional holiday greeting, but there was a story to go along with it! So thanks Billy, for making my day merrier!

Be sure to check out Billy's website, One Swell Illustrator.

Wow, what a treat to receive in your mailbox. Definitely not your typical Christmas card.
